Attending K-DISC Innovation Day 2026: Ideas, People, and Purpose
Innovation becomes meaningful when ideas, people and purpose come together to address real problems. Attending the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC) Innovation Day 2026 with the STRIDE team gave me a close look at that process.
The event brought initiatives from across Kerala’s innovation ecosystem into one space, creating opportunities to learn from projects, public programmes and people working on technology with social impact.

Where ideas and purpose converge
This was my first time attending K-DISC Innovation Day. Seeing a broad range of initiatives and projects together showed how collaboration across technology, public institutions and communities can shape an inclusive innovation ecosystem for Kerala.
The event was also an opportunity to meet entrepreneurs, technologists, public-sector representatives and teams working on different parts of the state’s innovation landscape.
STRIDE: building for inclusive design
STRIDE—Social Technology & Research for Inclusive Design Excellence—focuses on technology that is accessible and useful to people with different physical abilities. As a member of its tech team, I contribute to software tools and prototypes aimed at inclusive-design outcomes.
The larger lesson behind the initiative is straightforward: accessibility should influence a system from the beginning. When it is treated as a final addition, the people who most need a solution can still be excluded by it.
Discussions about inclusive assistive technology
The STRIDE panel explored accessibility, systemic challenges and the role of sustainable social technology. The discussion brought together practical perspectives on moving from an identified need to an assistive solution that can work in real settings.
What stood out to me was the emphasis on combining technical work with an understanding of the people, environments and constraints around a problem. Scalability matters, but so do usability, maintenance and the ability of a person to benefit from the technology independently.
Seeing assistive technology reach people
Another important moment was the presentation of assistive devices to students. It connected the technical and policy conversations from the event with the people those systems are intended to support.
That moment reinforced why inclusive technology cannot be measured only by the sophistication of its code or hardware. Its value depends on whether it expands access, independence and participation in everyday life.
Reflecting on the experience
I was grateful to experience the event alongside the STRIDE Leadership Team, led by Robin Francis. Working with a team focused on a shared social purpose made the day more meaningful and gave the discussions a practical connection to our ongoing work.
Innovation Day also gave me the chance to connect with people from other initiatives and see how ideas can gain momentum when technical execution, institutional support and community understanding come together.
